Press Release
from the Texas Chapter of the League of the South
Jeff Adams State Chairman, Texas League of the South
Date: 20 June 2000
The Texas League of the South views the decision of the United States
Supreme Court as being another assault on the traditional heritage and
culture of our land. This blatant anti Christian decision flies in the
face of historical fact concerning the intent of the writers of the U.S.
Constitution. The author's of the Constitution had a strong Christian
foundation, and the clearly written meaning of the First Amendment has
been ignored for the sake of judicial activism.
The Constitution was written to prevent the federal establishment of
religion, not the local expression of religion. This is big government
intervention in a local issue. Over 90% of the local residents wanted to
open their sporting events with prayer, and their freedoms have been
denied. Justice Stevens, by his own words, has confused religious
matters with political matters. No one is being denied access to the
political process simply because a prayer is being said at a ball game.
The Texas League of the South encourages all God-fearing Texans to
participate in an act of civil disobedience to fight the court's ruling.
Citizens are encouraged to "spontaneously" break out in a
recitation of the Lord's Prayer prior to the beginning of any high
school sporting event. The people have to stand up for their rights
before they are judicially ruled into extinction.
If members of the press wish for further comment, I can be reached
during the day at (713) 535-8267.
